Is your tap water safe?

ATLANTA -- CBS Atlanta has uncovered a toxic chemical seeping into our water supplies, into your home, and the water you and your family drink every single day.

Hexavalent chromium, made famous in the movie" Erin Brockovich," is a the deadly chemical that has been linked to leukemia, stomach cancer, and liver and kidney damage.

We tested the water across metro Atlanta to check for hexavalent chromium, also known as chromium 6. Five of the seven water supplies we tested fail to meet some of the nation's most stringent standards. We found two, eight, even 14 times the proposed limits of hexavalent chromium in the water you're drinking. It's in your kids' schools, and in your home.
